Being Organized

It’s a compulsion that intensifies at night
when I stop listening and can only see
those two books sticking so far out
from the others that I cannot let them be

But often I think it echoes my preference
for solids over patterns and my need
for clear purpose in a world where
having a place is never guaranteed

Still, the obsession with order limits me
from living like those whose clothes spill
from open drawers as rainbows or beads
recreating more than spaces to fill
