The Morning Star

Streetlights,

Great orange candles

Flicker out in unison

And silence

Is painted over

With birdsong

Mercury watches me

Like a father

With a newborn

Before thick rubber tires

Reconquer the earth

Like a swarm of bees

And light fools me again

Into believing

Only what I see
