The Cafe (the final installment)

On the final day

in April

It’s fitting

That I find comfort in the walls

Of this little diner

At the end

Of 30 days

And on to the next

A chronicle of a month’s

turn

A terribly small

score and ten

In the bigger picture

But just as comforting

As my full order

of biscuits and gravy.

There are people here

I’ve never seen before

Who still need a menu

While the waitress knows

I take my coffee black

I have made it

I am a regular

Sitting among the fixtures

Of those more regular

Than I
