Thank God for Jazz

thank God for jazz.

thank God for something that isn’t

forced to

resolve, because

MY LIFE

doesn’t resolve.

thank God for something that doesn’t

require f

              o

                 r

           m,

right answers, or

truth assumed,

truth fabricated

into a stale, grey,

rat of a blanket

like the kind you keep

“just in case”

any real

fire

breaks out.

well, I say the world

needs a little more

fire, a little more

real,

like the kind that

shoves you into the

bell of a trumpet and

dumps you out on city streets,

where it’s raining

and all you hear is a song–

the same song that just

plunged its dirty fist

straight through your hairless chest

and returned

a soul.
