The Cafe (Part IV)

She’s asking her Daddy

How hot chocolate is made

The waitress brings her

Marshmallows AND whip cream

A morning of whatever she wishes

She wants ‘fricken chried steak’

With ‘ash browns’

She’s been informed she’s crazy

and I don’t think she minds

She’s too excited

That she and the man she brought to breakfast

Have the same type of cup

Hers filled with newly transformed ‘velociraptors’

I can’t write this stuff

Poetry writes itself

When a five-year-old’s mouth is the pen.

She loves crackers

And only eats jam on her toast,

And she’s ‘as good as a leaf on a flower’

A contrast against the laughter

Of old men
