Sediment

My purpose lies on sandy shores

Where time has broken down

The rocks I once identified with

Into trillions of pieces of sediment

We are moved with the moon’s push and pull

Of the water

Such a distant force

Moving all around us

Until we reach our places

In time to capture her footprint

On a rainy day

To know her steps and hear her story

In the arch and creases of her feet

There is no beach to step on

Without my trillion brothers

All willing to break down

So we may fit between her toes

There is no direction

Without a trillion grains of sand

Pushed by great forces

To become small gifts

Even for one
