Today

everyone’s looking for that moment,

when the sun hits just right

upon oppressed pupils

who can’t see the Light–

who can’t even want it.

but today,

today was a light-soaked day,

full of color I almost forgot

how to find.

today was a day

where You turned my

dust to diamond,

shrug to smile,

heartbeat to blessed.

today was a day

where You had a scent again,

like homecooking and chance,

where syllables wanted to stretch and

feel the Spring,

awakening,

enlivening,

and humbling

the “it” I thought to be me.
